This West End Lights is going to be different…
… and not on one single night as usual.
Unfortunately, Lincoln West End Lights cannot take place in its usual shape and form this time, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Lincoln currently being in Tier 4 of government restrictions. An event that lives from people coming together to marvel at the illuminated west end this one night of the year simply is too risky to take place in the current situation. We were blown away by the many registrations we had received and it truly is a shame that WEL 2020 cannot take place as planned. Despite rescheduling WEL 2020 from December 2020 to January 2021 the pandemic is still heavily upon us, and it would not be responsible to go ahead. We don’t want to keep our illuminators in limbo (waiting for a likely cancellation at very short notice), and certainly do not want to increase any health risks to our community’s health.
However, as we are all hungry for some lights of hope and joy, we want to encourage the great people of the Lincoln west end to still illuminate this year’s January with their creativity, positivity and ideas. Not just for one night, but for this month. Maybe scale down your installations, just leave your Christmas lights on for longer, shine some colours into the night, put up your projection if you still can at some evenings, decorate your window with messages of hope and gratitude. Let’s make this month bright, and put a smile on dwellers of the west end who go about their safe walks around our neighbourhood.
So, friends and illuminators, don’t despair! If you have a bright idea, turn it into an installation that you are happy to keep up for a few weeks. If you have some fairy lights that could light up the night, put them up. Or simply put out some candles for people to enjoy. And if you had a really great installation planned for WEL 2020, hold on to it and keep it in mind for WEL 2021, when we will return brighter and bigger. Still consider signing up for the illuminators mailing list if you haven’t yet, to keep in the loop with all updates and events to come.
