Psst! The Lincoln Imp has sneaked out of the Cathedral for West End Lights, and he has turned the West End into his very own Night-Time Gallery!

The Imp has hidden 11 pictures on streets all around the West End. Every picture was drawn by a child from St Faith’s Church of England Infant and Nursery School or St Faith and St Martin Church of England Junior School, and each one hangs in a golden gallery frame. Can you find them?

The trail is free and made for primary school children and their grown-ups. Join in on Friday 4 December, 6 to 9 pm, while you enjoy the illuminations.

How it works

  1. Scan any poster. Point your phone camera at the QR code on any of the Imp’s posters. There is no app to install and no sign-up. Your family gets its own fun explorer name, like Vigilant Lively Peacock.
  2. Listen to the Imp. At each poster, the Imp tells you what he loves about the picture, shares a secret local fact (did you know a plesiosaur skeleton was found when St Faith’s school was built?) and sets you a silly photo challenge.
  3. Follow the clues. The Imp gives you a clue for finding each picture. If you like, the trail can also show how far away each picture is. Your location stays on your phone and is never sent to us.
  4. Find any 6 of the 11. That’s all you need to complete the trail, so there’s no need to walk the whole route. Keen explorers can carry on and find all 11!
  5. Get your certificate. When you finish, you’ll see a trophy screen with your explorer name in big letters, and you can download a certificate.

The posters go up shortly before West End Lights night. Please keep little explorers close: traffic flows as usual through the West End, so take extra care when crossing roads.

Photos and privacy

Taking photos is entirely optional. Before you start, you agree that photos you upload may be used by the West End Lights organisers to share and celebrate the event. Please only photograph children with the permission of their parent or carer, and leave faces out if you prefer: hands, shadows or drawings work just as well! We don’t collect any names, email addresses or other personal details. Your explorer name is the only thing that identifies you.

Thank you

A huge thank you to all the children at both schools who entered our poster competition. The Imp’s gallery shows off some of the favourite pictures. Our two winning designs, by Arlo Garner and Beatrice Hul, are on this year’s postcards and posters.
